Volvo has introduced the C40 Recharge in India with a starting price of ₹61.25 lakhs. This India-specific model features a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain powered by twin electric motors. On Monday, Volvo India launched the highly anticipated C40 Recharge at an ex-showroom starting price of ₹61.25 lakhs. This marks Volvo’s second all-electric car in the country, following the XC40 Recharge.
The Volvo C40 Recharge will compete with rivals like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the domestic market. Additionally, this EV will strengthen the automaker’s position in the Indian electric car market. Let’s delve into the details.
Revealing of Volvo C40 Recharge on June 14
Earlier this year, Volvo India unveiled the C40 Recharge’s design, features, and specifications on June 14. However, the pricing details were not disclosed at the time. Deliveries of the Volvo C40 Recharge are expected to commence in September this year. This EV is already available in several global markets and has now been added to the Indian lineup.
Design of the Volvo C40 Recharge
In terms of design, the C40 Recharge features signature Volvo design elements. It boasts integrated LED daytime running lights and signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlamps. As an EV, it sports a closed panel look instead of the traditional front grille. The lower bumper features sleek LED fog lamps and black air intakes, similar to the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
Moving to the side profile, the C40 Recharge’s coupe-like roofline sets it apart from the boxier presence of the XC40 Recharge. At the rear, vertically oriented slim LED taillights enhance the EV’s rear look. In terms of dimensions, this EV measures 4,440 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,591 mm in height.

The Volvo C40 Recharge features a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system complemented by a 12.3-inch digital driver display. Other features include heated and ventilated seats, vegan interior materials, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, wireless charger, and ADAS technology.
Battery, Motors, and Range of Volvo C40 Recharge
The India-specific Volvo C40 Recharge is equipped with a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an AWD drivetrain powered by twin electric motors. These dual electric motors produce a maximum power output of 402 bhp and a peak torque of 660 Nm. It is capable of reaching a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
The India-spec model promises a range of up to 530 kilometers on a single charge. Using the new Volvo DC fast charger, it can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 27 minutes. With an 11 kW Level 2 charger, it takes about 8 hours for a full charge.
