Tata Motors Unveils Next-Generation Tata Nexon EV: Claims 465km Range on Full Charge, Takes on Mahindra XUV400

Tata Motors has unveiled the facelifted version of its most popular car, the Nexon, in its electric avatar, known as the Nexon EV. The company claims that the new sub-4 meter electric SUV offers a range of 465 kilometers on a full charge.

The company has updated the car’s exterior and interior design, along with introducing several segment-first advanced features, including comfort and safety enhancements. It is set to compete with the Mahindra XUV400 in the market.

Launch in Three Variants on September 14th

The Tata Nexon EV is currently India’s best-selling electric SUV, and bookings for the facelifted version will commence on September 9th, coinciding with EV Day. The car will be officially launched on September 14th, and buyers can book it by paying a token amount of INR 21,000 either through the official website or at dealerships.

The new Nexon EV will be available in three different trims, offering both mid-range and long-range variants. These trims include Creative, Fearless, and Empowered, each with its unique set of features and the option of mid-range and long-range configurations.

The pricing for the Tata Nexon EV facelift has not been disclosed yet, but the current model starts at INR 14.50 lakhs (ex-showroom). However, after the update, the prices are expected to see an increase.

Nexon EV Facelift: Exterior and Design

In terms of looks and design, the Nexon EV facelift retains the sporty appearance of its petrol and diesel counterparts. The front and rear aesthetics have been completely overhauled, giving the SUV a sportier and more aggressive appearance. The front features new LED DRLs and a split headlamp setup, along with entirely redesigned bumpers featuring lower LED headlamps.

On the sides, it retains its funky 16-inch diamond-cut dual-tone alloy wheels, while the EV badging is visible on the front door. At the rear, the Nexon now boasts fully connected LED tail lamps, termed the ‘X-Factor Tail Lamp,’ which includes welcome and goodbye functions. The car also comes with five new interior color options: Pristine White, Fearless Purple, Creative Ocean, Daytona Grey, and Flame Red.

The biggest change inside the cabin is the introduction of a two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, a first in the Indian auto industry. The dashboard features a touchscreen HVAC unit and a new gear selector on the center console, elevating the overall luxury quotient of the car.

Additionally, the Tata Nexon EV facelift offers a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, further enhancing the technology and connectivity inside the car.

Nexon EV Facelift: Motor, Power, and Top Speed

The second-generation motor in the electric SUV can now rev from 12,000 RPM to 16,000 RPM, providing the Nexon EV with more power. The new motor generates 142.6 bhp of power and a maximum torque of 2,500 Nm. Tata claims the car can achieve 0-100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds, and its top speed is 150 km/h, which is 30 km/h faster than the previous model.

The SUV comes equipped with low rolling resistance tires and features a regenerative system to recharge the battery, which offers multiple regeneration modes. The motor is tuned with a new gearbox and pedal shifter, offering three driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport.

The Nexon EV facelift is available in mid-range and long-range variants. The mid-range variant comes with a 30 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 325 km on a full charge, an increase of 13 km from the previous model. The long-range variant features a 40.5 kWh battery pack, offering an impressive 465 km of range on a full charge, a 12 km increase from the previous model.

Charging options for the new Tata Nexon EV include support for 7.2 kWh charging. The company claims fast charging capability, with the car reaching 10-80% charge in just 56 minutes. The model also supports V2L (Vehicle to Load) and V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) charging.

Battery Pack Safety and Additional Safety Features

The battery pack in the Nexon EV is rated at IP67 for safety. Other safety features include emergency calls and breakdown calls, along with hill descent control, hill hold control, panic brake alert, auto vehicle hold, and i-TPMS (integrated Tire Pressure Monitoring System).

The Nexon EV now offers several advanced comfort features, including Tata’s IRA 2.0 mobile-connected technology, voice-assisted electric sunroof, JBL 9-speaker sound system, wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, it boasts a segment-first navigation display on the instrument cluster.

Nexon EV Facelift: Safety Features

The facelifted Nexon EV comes with new safety features, including a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, first-in-segment blind-view monitor, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), six airbags, hill-hold control, rollover mitigation, traction control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).

The launch of the Tata Nexon EV facelift is highly anticipated in the Indian automotive market, and it is expected to continue its success story in the electric SUV segment. With improved range, design, and features, the Nexon EV aims to capture a larger share of the electric vehicle market in India.
