Central Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, that Toyota will unveil a 100% ethanol-powered version of its Innova car. Minister Gadkari shared this information at the Mint Sustainability Summit.

Minister Gadkari has been actively encouraging vehicle manufacturers to adopt alternative fuels and promote eco-friendly vehicles. Last year, he launched the Toyota Mirai EV, a hydrogen-powered car. On August 29th, he revealed plans to launch the 100% ethanol-powered Toyota Innova. According to PTI reports, this will be the world’s first BS-VI (Stage-II) electric flex-fuel vehicle.

In 2004, when petrol prices began to rise in India, Minister Gadkari initiated an interest in biofuels and even visited Brazil with this purpose in mind. Gadkari believes that biofuels can work wonders and save significant foreign exchange spent on petroleum imports. He stressed the importance of reducing this import bill to achieve self-sufficiency. Currently, it stands at a staggering 16 lakh crore rupees, which is a substantial burden on the economy. India needs more sustainable solutions, especially considering the pressing issue of pollution in the country.

Reduced air and water pollution as well as improved river water quality were stressed by Minister Gadkari. Although it is a difficult task, maintaining our ecosystem and ecology depends on it.

According to Gadkari, different road projects totaling 65,000 crore rupees are anticipated to be finished by the end of this year, including the building of the Dwaraka Expressway.

Toyota’s creative action supports India’s drive for cleaner, more sustainable transportation solutions. As a biofuel, ethanol has the promise of drastically lowering carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, it can help India reach its aim of energy independence and lower its import costs for petroleum-based goods.

The Toyota Innova, a well-known MPV in India, will be the first vehicle of its kind to run entirely on ethanol. With this change, the Innova should become more environmentally friendly and in line with India’s growing emphasis on clean energy options.

Under Nitin Gadkari’s direction, the Indian government has vigorously promoted alternative energy and environmentally friendly transportation. These kinds of programs not only lessen carbon emissions, but also enhance India’s status as a pioneer in environmentally friendly transportation.

A transition to cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy sources is part of Nitin Gadkari’s plan for India’s transportation industry. India is one step closer to realizing its aims for sustainable transportation with the introduction of the Toyota Innova that runs entirely on ethanol.

In conclusion, Nitin Gadkari’s announcement of the introduction of a Toyota Innova powered entirely by ethanol is a significant advancement in India’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation. The government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions, lessen reliance on fossil fuels, and encourage the development of alternative and cleaner energy sources are in line with this action. Additionally, it establishes India as a leader in the automobile industry’s adoption of cutting-edge technologies, serving as a model for the rest of the globe as it makes the transition to a greener future.
