Aprilia RS 457 Unveiled: Made-in-India Sports Bike Competition with Kawasaki Ninja 400

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia has unveiled an entry-level sports motorcycle, the Aprilia RS 457, in India on September 20. The company claims that this bike can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in just 12 seconds.

Competition in the Middleweight Sports Motorcycle Segment

The Aprilia RS 457 is set to compete in the middleweight sports motorcycle segment, going head-to-head with the Kawasaki Ninja 400, which is priced between 5.19 lakh and 5.24 lakh INR.

Pre-Bookings Open

This motorcycle is proudly a “Made-in-India” product, with production taking place at the Piaggio India plant in Baramati, Maharashtra. As of now, the company has not disclosed the bike’s pricing.

According to media reports, the ex-showroom price is expected to be between 4.25 lakh and 4.50 lakh INR. However, the company has already started accepting pre-bookings.

Aprilia RS 457: Design

The design of the Aprilia RS 457 is sharp and highly attractive. It is a fully-faired sports bike with design cues borrowed from the company’s other sports bikes like the RS 660 and RSV4.

At the front, it features a sharp teardrop-shaped LED DRL setup and an LED headlamp. It comes with clip-on handlebars and backlit controls. The handlebars feature silver-finished aluminum swingarm.

The bike is equipped with a 5-inch TFT color screen displaying the speedometer, mobile connectivity, battery status, GPS, fuel gauge, side stand status, and engine warning lights. It features silver-finished aluminum frame on the sides and a sharp tail-end with LED brake lights and indicators.

In the engine department, the Aprilia RS 457 comes with a dual camshaft, 4-valve twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces a maximum power of 47 hp. Power is delivered through a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle weighs 159 kg.

Aprilia RS 457: Suspension and Braking

For comfort, the Aprilia RS 457 is equipped with 41 mm USD forks with pre-load adjustment at the front and a mono-shock absorber with pre-load adjustability at the rear.

Braking is handled by a dual-channel ABS system with a 320 mm disc at the front wheel and a 220 mm disc at the rear wheel. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with a 110/70 section tire at the front and a 150/60 section tire at the rear.
